Best paper types for coloring pages

Choosing the right paper can make a big difference in your coloring experience. While standard printer paper can be used, upgrading to better-quality paper can improve both the look and durability of your finished artwork.

For general use, a slightly thicker paper than regular printer paper is recommended. This helps prevent ink from bleeding through and provides a smoother surface for coloring. If you are using colored pencils or crayons, standard paper may work well, but thicker paper will still give better results.

If you plan to use markers, especially alcohol-based markers, it is important to use heavier paper. Thicker paper reduces the chances of ink bleeding through to the other side and helps maintain clean lines. Some users also place an extra sheet underneath to protect surfaces.

For those who want a more premium experience, specialty papers such as cardstock or smooth drawing paper can be used. These options provide a more professional finish and are ideal if you plan to display or keep your artwork.

Experimenting with different paper types can help you find what works best for your style and tools.
